Energy Drink Better than Cough Medicine?

An energy drink ingredient, theobromine, found in Xe Energy from Xocai and in dark chocolate may be more effective than cough medicine according to a recent study.

Scientists, in research at Imperial College London and published in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Journal, found that a key ingredient in dark chocolate and in the Xocai Xe energy drink was a third more effective than the leading medicine codeine in stopping persistent coughs.

Theobromine is one of the ingredients in the new Xe energy drink by Xocai. Theobromine also acts as a stimulant. It may be that the theobromine suppresses the vagus nerve which is responsible for causing coughing.

Theobromine may be a better choice for coughing, especially for people that use heavy machinery or who drive, since there doesn’t seem to be a side effect of drowsiness in fact just the opposite (which is probably why it is being used in the new Xocai Xe Energy Drink.

There are many over the counter cough remedies (many which have no evidence that they work at all). Millions are being spent on these every year.

The studies look promising, but more studies need to be done. Always, of course, consult with a doctor before you try anything for your health. Wouldn’t it be nice if someday your doctor prescribed you a chocolate or a tasty energy drink to get rid of you cough

Xocai is first to market with an energy drink using theobromine in their energy drink. Xocai is also the category creator of healthy chocolate.
